In the scenario given in class there was two mountains and in between the two mountatins there was a village. One of the mountains was an old volcano that contained lots of carbon dioxide. All the village people died.
Explain what happened in that mountain village we described in class. Your explanation will need to include detail that includes density and molecular weight of gases.
Given this scenario I can conclude that the people in the village died because of the large amount of carbon dioxide present.
People breathe through oxygen. The air molecules are mainly nitrogen (78%) and oxygen which is 21%. The organs and cells in our bodies give off carbon dioxide. The problem is when you breathe in large amounts of carbon dioxide. When this happens the blood in the body is overloaded with carbon dioxide and the body temperature will go way down and you will die of hypothermia.
Carbon dioxide = 1.977g/L
Nitrogen = 1.251 g/L
Oxygen = 1.428 g/L
Both Nitrogen and oxygen weigh less than the carbon dioxide. Because the carbon dioxide was denser the people died.
