Activity 2 1/18/2011 Molecular Masses

List the molecular masses of carbon dioxide, oxygen, and helium. Explain how you get this from the Peiodic Table.

Carbon Dioxide: CO2 =
Atomic Mass Carbon = 12.01
Atomica Mass Oxygen = 16.00
Molecular Mass = Carbon + Oxygen x 2= 12.01 + (16.00 x 2) = 44.01 g/mole

Oxygen= O2= 16 g/mole + 16 g/mole = 32 g/mole

Nitrogen= N2= 14 g/mole + 14 g/mole = 28 g/mole

Helium= He= 4g/mole --- Lightest so it will float in air.

Water= H2O= (1.01 x 2) + 16 = 18.02 g/mole
